About the materialThese video courses are a unique resource for adapting Indian Classical Music to the guitar. The knowledge I am able to present here is largely thanks to my Gurus Roopa Panesar and Shakir Khan who both play sitar. They have provided much of the raw material and I have used my experience as a guitarist, teacher and sitar student to develop the techniques and stylistic choices to suit this beautiful and powerful style of playing bringing the tradition to life on the guitar.

This course is definitely the best place to start. It is an eye-opening experience for any guitarist who wishes to expand their horizons into Indian Classical Music - even if you are a beginner. The core of the material is based on adapting elements of sitar technique and reinventing the nature of the electric guitar.
It takes a very step-by-step approch ensuring that all elements are in place as you progress through the course. Consisting of 35 videos arranged into 21 Chapters, adding up to over 4 hours of content! There is 'video synchronized' notation and tablature, as well as in PDF form and 'neck diagrams' to accompany the material. |
The new bonus section of this course is now available! Its a fully comprehensive guide to fretboard navigation, exploring different approaches in-depth. These videos focus on explaining the musical strengths and technical concepts behind each area and give examples of how to improvise with the material.
Raag Jog & Tihai Rhythms
The wonderful world of Tihai rhythms! I have teamed up with my band mates Manish Pingle and Gurdain Rayatt to create this course. It has some more advanced rhythmic material, but it does work very step-by-step so this course can work as a stand alone. But definitely more appropriate for the intermediate to advanced player.

Raag Yaman & Pentatonic Scales
Raag Yaman is the most popular in all of India. This course starts by teaching very detailed 'left hand fingering' techniques to help master single-string passages. So its very good to establish the fundamentals. It then goes on to use hidden penatatonic shapes. So we fully explore all the different ways to navigate around the neck and understand the theory behind this.

The Charukeshi Challenge
Are you ready for a challenge? This course dives deep into a practice method using different sets of numbers in a phrase like 3s, 5s or 7s! It is a very effective way to develop your techniques and rhythmic skills that Indian musicians use. It ultimately expands your capacity to improvise and create variation in melodic movement.

Raag Malkauns
This nighttime raag is one the most ancient and most loved in all of Indian Classical Music.
Featuring compositions from my gurus repertoire and specially crafted exercises to help you navigate through the raag all over the fretboard. The other parts of the course work closely with the teental rhythm cycle heard on the tabla. Showing you how to construct lines that weave back into the composition in a very authentic way. We also explore the alap style improvisation in great depth. |
Raag Bageshree
Raag Bageshree has a very special atmosphere and creates that distinctly Indian Classical sound, while also being very easy on the ear.
Like the Raag Yaman course this also starts by teaching very detailed 'left hand fingering' techniques to master single-string passages. It was the first raag I learned with my Guru Roopa Panesar and all the material is taken directly from my lessons with her. Also new bonus section with special tihai rhythms from my Guru Shakir Khan! This will open your ears wide! |
Raag Hansadhwani
Perhaps the most beautiful and pure sounding raag. Featuring vocals from Ashnna Sasikaran adding the sargam syllables to each exercise - great for ear training. This course is best suited if you already have some understanding of the techniques I tend to use. It comprises of scale exercises, patterns and a composition. Every chapter has an in-depth tutorial where each line is played very clearly at slower speeds. It's fantastic sounding material and really captures the spirit of Indian Classical Music on the guitar.
