About the course

Tihai is a very interesting and powerful device that Indian Classical musicians use in performance.

I have teamed up with my band mates Manish Pingle and Gurdain Rayatt to deliver the rhythmic sections of the course. Manish is an Indian slide guitar player who has studied with sitar Maestro Shahid Parvez. Shahid is thought by many to be one of the leading musicians of our time, particularly when it comes to the tihai concept and is known for his complexity and highly musical approach. This is very much reflected and Manish's playing and his approach to tihai as well.

The course moves forward very systematically and provides the grounding in technique and musical understanding that will profoundly aid your development in this exciting style of playing.

I have put a lot of energy and thought into making teaching materials for this new style and making it accessible to other guitar players. There is a real lack of material out there for playing raags on guitar or learning compositions. This is something I have been addressing and have created these unique videos with synchronized notation to show very accurately how these Indian pieces and be played on the guitar very effectively and authentically.

THE MATERIALS

It has been created for guitarists who already have some playing experience - not necessarily in Indian music.
The course contains very specially crafted exercises and points of focus, that provide the right tools and practice concepts that will really nourish the roots of your playing. As the elements are broken down into easily digestible parts, there is a pleasing simplicity to it. But when all the elements are fully absorbed and used as a vehicle for improvisation, you will see the true potential of the ideas being expressed and taught here.
