This event has now finished - but do get in touch to hear about the next course!
Rock Band Workshops are an opportunity for young people who play an instrument to come together, learn to play as a group and work towards performances. Groups of around 5 or 6 will attend weekly rehearsals where we will learn songs together and develop them into a set list. Every step of the rehearsal is guided by myself as your tutor so everyone will have a clear sense of what they need to do and how to work together as a band. We can accommodate for various levels of ability within the groups, as each song will have easier or more difficult parts that we can mold to suit the members of the group.
All the music that we play is provided by me and chosen carefully to help the group get the best outcome. As things develop students will be able to request songs they would like to do as long as they are achievable for the group to play.
The group will work towards small performances that would typically occur at the end of term or just before a half term break. Theses performances are very rewarding for the students and it gives them such a boost. There is something about playing live that really helps you to 'up your game' as every performing musician will tell you.
The main instruments we cater for are Guitar, Bass Guitar and Drums. Students can also attend as Singers or playing other instruments but it's best to speak to me first just so we can make sure the workshops can accommodate you and your instrument.
The venue is the Wiltshire Music Center which is on the same site as St Lawrence School in Bradford on Avon. The rehearsal room has an in-house drumkit and P.A. system we can use. I will provide guitar amps but students must bring there own guitar/instruments (apart from drummers).
Each side of half term will have five sessions of 80 minutes (90 mins for the 'teen group'), running on Tuesday evenings.
Here are the start and end times:
Youth Group - 7pm - 8:20pm
Teen Group - 8:30pm - 10pm
Fees are £75 per five sessions. Students are asked to comitt to a minimun of 10 sessions so we can work towards a performance at the end of this.
The workshops will run throughout the academic year but in some cases they might not happen for the first part of the spring term and for the last part of the summer term.
