Play Lead Guitar - Course
This October Nighttrain guitar courses are running a brand new course called 'play lead guitar'.
We will be delving into the essential concepts and techniques required to develop yourself as a lead guitar player. Ranging from understanding the whole instrument better, developing specific techniques, playing effective solos or creating special parts to give a song it's signature sound. |
|
The course will happen over to Saturday afternoons. Each day will be divided into two parts.
The first part will be focused on scale theory and how this relates to melody playing which is the fundamental ingredient of lead guitar playing.
The second part of the first day will be focused on technique. We will have a close look at technique for both the fretting and the picking hand. In this we will establish the most effective fingering methods to master any passing. We will also look at all the expressive techniques that bring the guitar to life and help you to create your own style. When we look at the right-hand we will address the fundamentals of good picking and the different styles of picking required to play the most distinctive lead parts.
In the first part of the second day we will look at chord theory and how to relate this back to the scale Theory we learnt on the first day. To do this we will use the caged system in a way that is very easy to understand and very effective for generating ideas. We will also look at how to generate different types of chords and a simple straightforward way to master chordal extensions.
On the second part of the second day we will be looking at how to apply all of the concepts and techniques that we've learned. This will enable us to use the right tools at the right time to play a lead part that will take the song where it needs to go and have a sense of freedom to express yourself while complementing the essence of the song.
Throughout the course we will be doing a lot of jamming together to experiment with what's being learnt. All in parts of the course will be accompanied by specifically made diagrams and tabs to ensure that you can carry on practicing at home what we've covered in the sessions.
Groups will be between 4 to 8 people so there will be lots of opportunities for questions and personal guidance within the sessions.
